Window and door grants in Québec: what actually exists

Rénoclimat, the only program that covers windows

Rénoclimat is the Québec government program that helps homeowners carry out energy-efficient renovations. It is today the only one that targets door and window replacement.

The amount: $150 per opening, for an exterior window or door certified ENERGY STAR^®. The replacement must be complete — changing only the glazing or the sash does not qualify.

How it works

The process is simple, but the order of the steps is not negotiable.

• 1. The initial evaluation. An accredited energy efficiency advisor visits the home BEFORE the work and establishes an energy profile.
• 2. The work. You have it carried out by a qualified contractor.
• 3. The final evaluation. The advisor returns afterward to measure the improvement.
• 4. The payment. The grant is paid according to the gains achieved.

An evaluation done after the work has started makes the file ineligible. It is the most expensive and most common mistake.

Eligibility conditions

• Own a residence in Québec built more than two years ago.
• Have the energy evaluation done BEFORE starting the work.
• Use products that meet the program's standards.
• Use a contractor holding a valid RBQ licence.

What does NOT cover windows

Two misconceptions come up constantly, and they cost time:

• Hydro-Québec's LogisVert does not apply to doors and windows. The program says so plainly: their installation or replacement is not eligible work. LogisVert targets heat pumps, insulation and solar.
• The Canada Greener Homes Grant has been closed to new applications since February 2024.
• RénoVert and LogiRénov, two provincial tax credits still cited in many articles, expired years ago.

Wait times, the other side of the coin

Between energy evaluations, waiting lists for an accredited advisor and administrative processing, it is not unusual to wait several months — sometimes more than a year — before receiving the grant.
